Company DigiNotar, SSL-issued safety certificates to many famous sites, declared bankrupt after a major hacker attack, which resulted in “under attack” hit at least 300,000 computers in Iran, said Tuesday’s press service of the parent company DigiNotar VASCO.
As previously predicted by experts, the incident with DigiNotar, because of which the hackers could steal more than a month quietly personal data of users and infect their computers, caused extensive damage to the reputation of the company. On Monday the company filed a lawsuit against the Netherlands on voluntary bankruptcy petition, the court announced on Tuesday DigiNotar bankrupt.
“We are all saddened by the fact that DigiNotar have to stop their activities, as well as the causes that led to this outcome. In cooperation with law enforcement agencies the Netherlands we find out who was behind the attack on the DigiNotar”, – said the news of the bankruptcy of the company Kendel Hunt, head of the VASCO – the parent company DigiNotar.
According to available data now, the attack on the servers DigiNotar occurred in July, but it became aware of just at the beginning of September, when security experts have discovered a network of more than 500 fake SSL-certificate service Google, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, as well as sites of Western CIA secret service, MI6, “Mossad” and others.
