Kinect for Xbox 360 or simply Kinect, a system of motion sensors and the data entry system to the OS. Used mainly for console games. There are currently sold over 10 million devices so Kinect hit the Guinness Book of Records as the most rapidly-selling computing device. Such was the prevalence and the idea to create a malicious program. The main founder is a 15-year-old boy, Shantanu Gawde. Over the last month revealed several instances of cracking open Kinect using external drivers or the original SDK. The virus is called, «gawde» by the name of the creator, is working on Windows 7 for covert capture images of the victim or the environment around the device Kinect, and send the information received at the server online Picasa albums. Rajshekhar Murthy, Director, ISAC (Information Sharing and Anaysis Center), said:
“We believe that in the next few years a lot of windows-applications will be designed to work with Kinect, and this device will become much more popular, which gives attackers the opportunity to spy on honest users. In research laboratories Malcon we support safety studies using Kinect and hope that such examples of vulnerabilities or malicious code will be created only as a Proof-of-Concept. “
The virus «gawde» even has the opportunity to voice control. PoC will be published at the next conference in 2011 MalCon in Mumbai in India.
