PCWorld magazine has published the results of performance tests systems on Windows 7 and Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Looking ahead, almost all Windows 8 proved to be better. Test results coincide with the impression of users who have installed a Windows 8 and participated in the survey PCWorld. Of these, 40% said that the new system seems to be more rapid, 45% did not notice the difference, and only 8.9% said that the previous version was faster.
Preliminary tests, because Windows has only eight out of beta. By the final release, of course, different drivers will be optimized and the system should show even better performance. While it may be, and vice versa, who knows.
Measurements were performed on a machine Intel Core i5-2500K 3,3 GHz, 8 GB DDR3 RAM 1333 MHz, Hard Drive 1 TB 7200 RPM and a graphics card Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti.
For a start, the system drove the whole package of tests WorldBench 7, Windows 8 is in general the result showed a 14% better. According to experts, “by eye” is palpable in five percent or more, so most users should see progress without any tests.
We measured the time from pressing the power button to open a text file that has been registered in the startup. It should be noted that Windows first loads the eight Metro-interface, which negatively affected the result of this test, because it was measured the time it switches to the desktop interface. That is, for Metro outcome would have been even better.
Of the entire group of seven WorldBench tests can distinguish the individual category.
Windows 8 is lost in this test suite, which blamed on dampness of the drivers for the beta version of the OS.
